See what our visitors are saying about the Astor Inn!
I could not have come across lovelier staff! The flight I was on left my luggage behind and the receptionist stayed an hour after her shift until around 11pm to sit with me and wait for my bags. They walked me to my room and brought my bag to my room when it arrived at 11pm. I honestly could not thank these lovely people enough for keeping me company and looking after me during this time!
Surfers Paradise, Australia
"Great place to stay"
I stay here often and rate the staff 11/10. The rooms represent excellent value. The motel is located at the end of the Main Street putting everything in walking distance.
Wagga Wagga, Australia
"Great value for money. Good accommodation, central location."
One of Wagga's oldest institutions, same family for many, many years. Great location at end of main street, right at railway station. Staff very efficient and helpful. Highly recommended even if rooms a little small.
"Good, as usual, have stayed there on many occasions"
The Astor is ideally located, close to all businesses and shops. It is on the main road, but, no road noise. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable, it is an older building, not 5 star, small room, but more than suitable for business trips etc.
As stated, not 5 star accommodation but the quality of the employees and staff are 5 star, they are friendly, professional, and all one could ask for. They are a credit to the property and the person who selects them should be congratulated as should the staff, themselves.
"Good for lone travellers"
I always stay here when I have to go to uni for 'res school'. It's perfect for lone travellers. The staff are really nice and friendly and treat you like friends. The rooms are small but clean. I think it's good value for money and would much rather stay here for a little bit more than stay on campus. I'm actually going to miss this place when I finished my degree.
"I've become one of the locals"
Doing the Xmas road trip Sydney to Adelaide. Left after work so didn't get on the road till 4:30.
As I'm prone I thought I would work it out on the way. Long story short it's around 10:30 and I hit Wagga Wagga. Where to stay?
I drive past the Astor, but I keep driving. 2 kilometres down the road I turn back.
The staff are super friendly and the have 24hr check in.
Laura sorts me out for a room no problems. Once settled I meet Merv and a bunch of locals. I'm just driving through and I feel so welcome.
End up having a couple of beers and a lot of chats with the staff and locals.
I'm coming back. This is now my stop over of choice.
Thanks Wagga Wagga, thanks Astor, thanks staff. I felt like I was home and a local.
"Kapooka March Out"
Stayed here for my sons March Out, very happy with my choice. Got the family room which had queen bed in one room and 2 singles in another. Very clean and tidy. The bus drops the recruits just near the hotel and the hotel is right near the main shopping district. Also recruits aren't allowed outside a certain point and this is within that area, so my son could come back to hotel room. It ticked all the boxes for me, not the Ritz but then great value for the money.
"Apartment is perfect for Army Recuit Marchout."
Highly recommend for family visiting. We stayed at Astor Inn for my Sons Marchout from Kapooka. After reading Trip Advisor reviews, I opted for the 2 bedroom apartment. Pefect for family with a small kitchen and big shared bathroom with tub. This was more than handy as the recruit buses are nearby, as is the main street with easy access to shops. The apartment also has a little surprise private balcony which gives you a view down the main street. Easy checkin and friendly service. When your soldier is on leave after marchout, it is a great place to relax. Aircon was awesome as it was freezing cold in Wagga at the time!
I've stayed here a few times now and everything is great from getting there to leaving... the staff are friendly and attentive! The rooms are very clean and very comfortable! Basically... good bang for your buck.
"Great Location, friendly, helpful staff"
What a delight to be welcomed to this motel, conveniently located on the Stuart Highway, Railway Station and the High Street. The rooms are well located on the block so that no road noise is heard. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Reliable WIFI available
Thumbs up for the great service when I visited Wagga Wagga back in June for queens birthday long weekend. The bed was so comfy and slept like a log best sleep ever. The motel is in walking distance for anyone catching the train to Melbourne or Sydney, will be back again and always like staying here when visiting Wagga Wagga :) :)
I had my Engagement in party there last night and when i got there to set up at 8am in the morning Naomi had done an amazing job of setting the room up for me all i had to do was decorate which took 15 mins.
Later on in the afternoon we booked into our room which was very tidy and got ready for the night which was sensational and most of the credit goes to who became everyones best mate Merv!!! He is such a credit to the Astor and was the best barman I could have asked for! I have no trouble recommending the Astor to anyone who is having a function! Thankyou guys and well done !! :)
I stay there regularly for work. Very centrally located, clean, close to shops and train station. Very friendly staff.
"Great Value and Hospitable Staff"
Stayed for one night was travelling for work. Travelling solo.
Staff helpful and check-in process was speedy and efficient. My room was small and cosy with everything I needed. Comfortable bed, hot shower, fridge and tea/coffee. Good TV and aircon heater the room quickly. Surprisingly quiet considering how close the hotel is to the road.
Astor is good value for what you pay. Clean tidy rooms though a little on the small side. Water pressure is fantastic. Central location can walk across the road to cbd. Close to great restaurants and shopping. Has improved with parking now available behind the Astor as well as inside complex.
"Simple, effective & affordable.
I was here in Wagga for work. Stayed 2 nights. Comfortable bed. Quiet location. Close to everything you need or want. Very inviting. And always right at your service. I will be back, and I will always recommend The Astor Inn as first preference to stay.
"Good value motel."
The Astor motel is value for money. We stayed in an adjoining room for a total of 7 nights over the last couple of months whilst our daughter was completing soldier training at Kapooka. Motel is quite reasonably priced and you will get a discount if you mention you are in Wagga to visit a recruit who is undergoing soldier training at Kapooka.
On each visit we found the staff to be very professional, extremely welcoming, friendly and happy to assist. The motel is of an older style but well maintained, rooms were clean, beds comfortable and bathroom in good condition for it's age.
As per previous Tripadvisor reviews recruits on local leave have limitations on where they can be in Wagga and the Astor is within these boundaries so they can come back to the motel and relax, otherwise have to spend the full day mostly in cafes etc in the main street. Recruits are dropped off and picked from their local leave at the Wagga Railway Station which is only abour 50 metres from the motel.
If you are in Wagga to visit someone undertaking soldier training this is the place to stay.
"Perfect for Kapooka march out."
We spent three nights here recently as my son had his march out from Kapooka on the Friday. The hotel was well located, being just around the corner from the railway station where the recruits, well, actually new soldiers, are expected to board the bus to return them to Kapooka after local leave.
Being on one of the 'approved' streets for them to be on in Wagga certainly helped as it meant he could come back to our motel room to relax and enjoy a drink before heading back to base.
There is free wifi available but at times it was hit and miss with being able to connect to our devices.
We had a shared room which was very reasonable at $149 per night for three adults. The main room had a king size bed and came with a shower over bath with fairly 'tight' access. Not the best if you aren't built like a model or have any kind of mobility issues.
The adjoining bedroom had a queen size bed and a much more user friendly shower, just a regular shower with a decent size entry.
The rooms were somewhat dark unless you opened up the curtains leading to the main corridor outside, however that meant that everyone walking past could look into your room and see what you were up to.
Heater worked very well, and we had daily cleaning which was done very well.
Reception staff were very helpful, and if you are staying there to attend a march out at Kapooka then make sure you let the staff know for a bit of a discount. Also, they are flexible about changing the dates in the off chance that your son/daughter/husband/wife doesn't march out on the planned date.
"Great place to stay for an ADF march out"
Stayed for 3 nights to see my young fella march out of Kapooka. This motel is awesome, its 50 meters from where the recruits get dropped in and picked up for local leave. The staff are excellent from when you first check in to when you leave. The staff are probably the best I have come across anywhere in Australia, genuine down to earth people who are friendly and very helpful with directions on how to get to wherever you are driving to. The rooms were spotless and comfy and even the cleaning lady was very friendly and up for a chat. I would highly recommend this accommodation if you are visiting Wagga Wagga... one more tip, if you are visiting from QLD and are staying there during winter take plenty of warm clothes because -3 degrees can be a bit of a shock to the system :)
Went to Wagga Wagga to watch our son's march-out at Blamey Barracks. We had 3 rooms - 1 x single (with double bed) and the family room (2x interconnecting rooms). The rooms were a tad small, but had everything we required - bar fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, aircon/heater which we really needed in the 2degree mornings.
The location is perfect - just walk across the road and you are in the main shopping street or a short walk up the road to the beautiful train station. It must be heritage listed, I think.
The only thing I would criticise would be the too-soft beds, but that is always a personal opinion.
Thank you for a great stay and your wonderful hospitality.
"Excellent service. Clean, comfortable."
Our family has stayed here on three separate occasions now, and have never been disappointed. The service, cleanliness, and friendliness is high standard and consistent. We've stayed in the family room each time, which was very comfortable. The location of this hotel is wonderful! Handy to everything. Able to walk straight out to the main street and train station. We will gladly continue to stay here when passing through this town.
"A comfortable stop-over"
After 13 hours on the road, the Astor Inn was the perfect stop, with a comfortable bed, a warm shower and even warmer hospitality.
The room was clean and comfortable, and nice and quiet.
We wandered up the street for dinner, with a good variety of eateries within walking distance.
I heartily recommend the Astor if you're a weary traveler looking to wake up fresh for another day on the road.
"Astor in review"
Staying here was great. Very clean and practical. Air con was great for the hot nights and it was a good place to stay. Parking was a little annoying for it was a very small car park and a tight fit but it was near all rooms so was easy to unload the car.
"Another relaxing stay"
As always the Astor offers a clean and comfortable stay. I stay here on every visit to Wagga Wagga. The Free WiFi is handy and at good speed. Nice quiet rooms including bar fridge.
"Brilliant price and location"
Very happy with my stay at the Astor Inn. I was in town for 5 days for my partners march off and it was only 10 mins away from the raaf base and directly across the rd from the main strip, easy and convenient so I didn't get lost.
It was really well priced for such a long stay and comfortable with a big bathroom and bed.The big breakfast was really yummy and good value for money too.
The only two minor down falls to the stay was a tiny window that poured sun straight in your eyes from dawn till dusk and the cleaners that persisted to come in and clean your room everyday even when I had the do not disturb sign up.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone in wagga for raaf or army visits (it's especially handy to know you get defence discounts if you tell them why your there) the value for money is well worth the stay!
"Three Room Booking - Apartment and 2 Double Rooms"
15 August 2014 saw our son march out of Kapooka. We stayed at the motel for three nights with three rooms booked. For those with loved ones marching out of Kapooka it is worthwhile considering this hotel. It's not advertised in the booklet provided to defence families, but there are only a number of streets in Wagga that recruits are allowed to frequent - this being one of them. Therefore if you are looking for a motel that your recruit can come and visit, this is great. Recruits are dropped off via a bus to the train station, located directly beside the motel. This means they can step right next door for a visit. For those families not staying in a hotel located in the district recruits are allowed to visit, this means that you will spend your free time sitting in coffee shops or restaurants. Do yourself a favour and book the apartment. It has a small combined lounge/dining room, two separate bedrooms (main with king bed), bathroom (with spa bath) and kitchenette. It's great as you are able to make meals to share and lay around and chat in the lounge, just like the comfort of your own home. We booked two double rooms for the grandparents. These were located on the ground floor of the complex. There was some disappointment of these rooms as they are small and the carpet was rotting near the bathroom doors. Also for the elderly the shower is a step up which can be difficult. The staff at the motel are most helpful and eager to assist with any questions. This hotel is definitely worth considering if you would like to book the apartment. And don't forget they give a march out discount too.
"Easy and convenient"
We stayed here for 1 night on a spontaneous trip to Wagga and chose this as a last-minute place to stay because it had late check-in. It turned out to be exceptionally convenient. The staff were friendly and suggested good places to get food as we came in late and un-fed. The room was sufficient for our stay and worked perfectly as an inexpensive room for one couple. Tea making facilities were a godsend, as was the shower which was quite sizeable and had great hot water.
We didn't make use of many of the facilities available as it was a very short stop-over, however, what we did use was in good condition, the bed was comfortable and linen was decent, and it was overall good value for money considering it's proximity to the shops/dining/station etc. Only downside was parking which was quite cramped- this was okay for our small hatch but may be less so for large cars when parking is near full.
"Great location & service."
We stayed here as we were looking for some where that was close to the main area of Wagga as we didn't have any transport. We were more than happy with the Astor Inn, the rooms are basic but clean & the staff are very friendly & helpful.
"Absolutely best place to stay for kapooka march outs."
This is not widely known until you get to Wagga but the recruits have a 'zone' that they are not allowed to travel outside of. If your hotel is outside of this then quite literally you have to spend your visitation on the street rather than relax in a hotel room. We were delighted with the accommodation, it is the closest motel to where the recruits are dropped off and picked up. The motel was certainly clean and serviceable with extremely friendly staff. Mention kapooka and you receive a 10% discount on already very reasonable rates. The absolute best hotel for march outs.
Stayed here to attend a loved one's march out ceremony. Staff and management are wonderful and very friendly, it is very affordable and with great facilities. The Astor Inn is within walking distance to the local town, close to all the food places and... Very close to where recruits are dropped off for town visits.
"Happy to recommend this place!"
Picked at short notice - excellent place. Cheerful, friendly staff! Clean, well-appointed room. Comfortable bed. Overall an excellent stay. Happy to stay here again and to recommend to fellow travellers.
"Enjoyed Astor Inn stay."
Stayed here with friends, it was a great hotel and had everything we needed for the price. The location is in the heart of town so everything can be easily walked to. Staff were friendly, would stay here again.
"Good value clean accommodation."
Accommodation was very clean and adequate... If you are here just for the night passing through or attending the march out this place is excellent. Right in town, close to other restaurants and shops. Would recommend this to anyone staying in Wagga Wagga.
"Great experience and value for money."
It was a great experience. I was greeted by friendly staff, who were able to help me out. It is very conveniently located for the Army buses and also right next to the shops. I will definitely be staying here again when I have to go back to Wagga Wagga.
"Highly recommended if visiting your recruit who is in Kapooka!"
The rooms were a lot better than I was expecting, bathrooms were a good size and heating was excellent. This hotel is at the start of Baylis St which is the main shopping street of Wagga and we can just walk everywhere! The Astor Inn is definitely value for money, I highly recommend it as a base when in Wagga.
"Perfect for army march out."
Service was fantastic with the staff being friendly from the time we booked in to the lady who serviced our room. The bed was comfortable with fresh, crisp sheets and good pillows. If you need good value for money, friendly staff and close to the main street of Wagga then you can't go past this place.
